Inspiration for this colorful carnival-style Halloween mask came from a client’s 5 year-old who’s enamored of wild, fanciful creatures. Honey locust tree seed pods were the starting point.

I began by creating a classic bird like papier-mâché base and added the distinctive seed pods (creating a feather headdress effect) and other natural materials including twisting ornamental grass leaves and moss. The finished mask brings a fresh approach to the tradition of a Halloween jack-o’-lantern.
