Bittersweet Vine Topiaries

The striking yellow-orange and red fruits on woody stems of American bittersweet vine are a beautiful way to bring autumn inside. Here I’ve fashioned it into a fall focal point by creating a pair of mantelpiece topiaries.

American bittersweet (Celastrus scandens) is a native plant - unlike invasive Oriental bittersweet.
Typically found growing in woodland areas American bittersweet isn't often planted in gardens, but it can be used effectively on large trellises and arbors providing vibrant color to the winter landscape. USDA hardiness zone 3-8.
